F.A.Q.
Please read this page before submitting to Art Outside. If after reading the FAQ, you think you would like to take part in our art endeavor, then follow the submission instructions below.

Where is Art Outside taking place?
The 3rd annual Art Outside will return to the Enchanted Forest in South Austin, Texas, United States of America, March 30 - 31st April 1, April 6-8th, and 13-15th 2007.

Is there a fee for submitting to Art Outside?
NO, there is no fee for submitting your art. If you are accepted to Art Outside, then there is a show fee of:
$20.00 for “The Irresistible Revolution”
$50.00 for “Vendaholic”

Who organizes Art Outside?
AO is ran by a small dedicated contingent of artisans, who put blood sweat and tears into creating a positive and creative space for all to experience. During the event we have a small army of volunteers who come here and help us pull off the show. THIS HAS BEEN AMAZING - and our hat goes off to everyone who has helped us in any way, shape or form. Without all the people and artisans who come together to create here at the forest, there would be no Art Outside.

What type of Art are you looking for?
Our philosophy when it comes to creativity is that the world is your oyster, and the Enchanted Forest is your pearl. The AO crew works hard to facilitate the visions of all artists; we are after all an Art Mecca in Austin. Any artistic dreams you have, feel free to share them with us as we have a wealth of resources, and we are known for pulling off the impossible here. With that said we have some plans of our own that you may already fit into.

For “The Irresistible Revolution”
We are looking for artistically inspired interpretations of the challenges, the hopes, and the fears of our planet, now and in the future. Specifically artists that work with natural and recycled material or have environmental messages incorporated in their art. On top of that we are searching for you, the installation artists, the sculptors, the theater majors, the noise makers, the sound artists, the video projectionists, the street performers. We want live art, conscious art, dark art, digital art..…. You get the point.

Does this quote inspire you in any way?
"The role of the revolutionary artist is to make revolution irresistible" Toni Cade Bambara - Join the Revolution

For “Vendaholic”
The last weekend of AO we are introducing a new idea to the event- “Vendaholic”. After 2 years of experience we feel that we can produce a show focused on selling the work of artisans here at the Enchanted Forest. We are specifically looking for unique handmade (by you of course) creations. Are you a master of your craft, is you and your art one of a kind? If so then you are who we are looking for. For more submission details please go to the Vendaholic page.

What is this Enchanted Forest you talk about?
The Enchanted forest (EF) is one of the most unique places in Austin, as well as home to one of the most diverse and eclectic art shows around. Lucky for the art community here in Austin, We love all things art, and like to think of the forest as an Artisans Mecca.

In a nut shell EF is a way cool and funky alternative venue made up of, well, a 3 acre forest in south Austin. It’s like a small shire surrounded by concrete world. There are paths all throughout the 3 acres of land, a stage area in a creek bed, and ya just have to see it to believe it. Really..

Where exactly is the art going to be displayed?
The 3 acres of forest will be divided into numbered sub plots that each selected artist, will choose on a first come first serve basis at “The Great Artisan Land Grab” (see bleow). What we like to think of it as, is that 100 of artisans will turn the 3 acres of art into one giant installation. Wanna Play?

For the “Irresistible Revolution” each selected artist will be allowed to create their installations within the plot of land they choose. They have the opportunity to choose their plot on a first come first serve basis at The Great Artisan Land Grab- see IR submission form for dates.

For the “Vendaholic” booth show plots of land will be chosen via The Great Artisan Land Grab as well.

Performers will be scheduled to play at specific times and at different stages throughout the weekend.

How will the artists plots be chosen?
By you, you claim your space at the Great Artisan Land Grab. Remember- first come first serve!

The Irresistible Revolution Great Artisan Land Grab
March 24th & 25th 2007 from Noon till 5pm

Vedaholic Great Artisan Land Grab
March 24th & 25th 2007 from Noon till 5pm

What about protection from the elements?
Every artist will be individually responsible for protecting their art from the elements in whatever way they feel necessary. The show will go on drizzle or shine.

Will there be electricity and lighting provided?
Artists are responsible for lighting their artwork with their own power cords. This means you provide your own lamps and extension cords (preferably green/earth tone to blend in with the landscape). NOTE: The paths will be lit with candles, torches, Christmas lights, and other creative forms of light.

I am a performer, is there a stage to perform on?
Why yes there are actually multiple stages to perform on, and we would love for you to do your thang on any one of them. We are looking for interesting and unique acts. If you are a spoken word artist, have a short performance piece, into acrobats and arial, play with puppets, love to dance, need to debate ect. ect ect. The stage is yours. Contact art@artoutside.org to perform and or do workshops during the 3-weekend art show.

I am a Musician, is there a place for me to play?
We are currently looking for eclectic musicians/bands to be the “sound track” of the forest. If interested email mote@artoutside.org

I’m not an artist but would love to sponsor this show or volunteer how do I do that?
