WHO organizes Art Outside?
AO is run by a small and dedicated contingent of artists, who, through blood, sweat, and tears, create a positive and creative space for all of you to experience. Before, during, and after the event, this dedicated army of volunteers comes together for the sake of bringing art to the masses. Without the amazing help from all involved, there would be no Art Outside.
WHY Art Outside?
We’re after the creative urge, that urge to make something, to create something that cannot be contained in a white walled gallery. At the root of it all, we’re creating a safe and creative environment for art to happen and be experienced in new ways. AO is all about you, the artist, and creating a unique environment for people to experience your art.
What type of Art are you looking for?
AO appreciates any and all creative humans who use their skill and imagination in the creation of aesthetic objects, environments, and experiences that can be shared with others. Please refer to the “Call For Art.” www.artoutside.org/call_for_art.htm
How do I submit my work to AO|08?
This year a database submission form has been added to the AO website to create an easier management system for the folks that are working hard to produce this event. Follow the link at the bottom of this page to take you to the submission page.
How will I know if my art is accepted or not approved?
You will be notified by the AO staff via e-mail.
If I am accepted to AO|08, do I have to participate in both weekends?
In short, no, but doing so will earn you many brownie points.
Is there a fee for submitting my art to Art Outside?
NO, there is never a fee for submitting your work to Art Outside.
Is there a fee if I’m accepted to participate in AO|08?
Only if you are a vendor selling your work. AO|08 will provide a designated vending areas for those crafts artisans who wish to sell their work. There will be a $50.00 “booth” fee. For all other artists, there is a suggested $20 donation. We take a standard 0% commission from all sales.
What are the booth fees and suggested donations used for?
All artist fees help offset the costs of producing the event, including promotional and marketing costs, website, flyers, posters, event electricity, etc.
Where exactly is the art going to be displayed?
The 3 acres of the Austin Enchanted Forest will be divided into numbered sub-plots selected by accepted artists on a first come first serve basis during “The Great Artist Land Grab” (see next question).
What is “The Great Artist Land Grab”?
The Great Artist Land Grab is the date when Artists will arrive to claim their parcel of land. This process is on a first-come-first-serve-basis. The chosen parcel is where your art will be displayed. This year, the Land Grab is on Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday February 24th. If you are unable to make it on one of those days, please contact AO08@artoutside.org with “Land Grab” in the subject to make other arrangements.
Will there be electricity and lighting provided for my art?
Yes, but you are responsible for your own lighting needs (lamps, extension cords, etc., try to blend in with forest landscape). General event lighting is provided by Austin Enchanted Forest in all common areas.
I am a performer, is there a place for me or my group?
Why yes, AO is looking for interesting and unique acts. If you are a spoken word artist, have a short performance piece, into acrobats or aerial, play with puppets, love to dance, need to debate ect. ect ect. the stage could be yours. All performance inquiries should be sent to AO08@artoutside.org with “Performer” somewhere in the subject line. (Note: performance artists do not need to complete the general artist submission application).
I am a Musician, is there a place for me to play?
Yes, AO is always looking for eclectic musicians/bands to be the “sound track” of the forest. All music inquiries should be sent to art@artoutside.org (note: musicians do not need to complete the general artist submission application).
We are an art collective, a gallery, a community of artists, and/or a group of crazy revolutionaries who want to do our thing at AO. Is there space for us?
Yes, we love collaborating in this way and encourage groups to come display their talents in our space. We will work out the details on a case to case basis. Please contact lauralea@artoutside.org with your ideas and to discuss specifics.
I’m not an artist but would love to volunteer- how do I do that?
By all means, AO loves volunteers… contact AO08@artoutside.org with “Volunteer” in the subject.
I have a question that is not answered here—what do I do?
Email us. You have questions, and we’re really good at making up answers. AO08@artoutside.org
